UPGRADE TO BACKUP EXEC 15: OVERVIEW
Migration process now runs at the start of the upgrade.
Backup Exec 2012/2014 to Backup Exec 15 job migration has a
one-to-one mapping for migrated jobs.
Jobs are not split when migrated from Backup Exec 2010 and have
a one-to-one mapping for most of the jobs.
Jobs with multiple server selections are displayed under each
server that is part of the job.
Migration is simplified by removing the complexities.

server backup jobs
• Backup Exec 2012 also does not
include the traditional Job Monitor
30
UPGRADE RECOMMENDATIONS (CONTINUED)
• Symantec recommends to perform a
step upgrade to Backup Exec 2014
and then upgrade to Backup Exec 15
32. Verify that your system meets the system
requirements for the new version of Backup Exec.
Review the Backup Exec 15 SCL and HCL to confirm
the applications and tape hardware being used with
previous versions are also compatible with
version15.
Make sure all the latest firmware and driver updates
have been applied to the machine's hardware.
32

MIGRATION
BACKUP EXEC 2010 TO BACKUP EXEC 15 – KEY POINTS
Jobs that include multiple servers and mixed backup methods
are NOT split after migration.
Non-Policy jobs are either combined or converted based on
specific conditions.
All existing policies are migrated.
Jobs with unsupported task rules are not migrated.
A single selection list is not reused with multiple jobs, if required
it is cloned and used with other jobs.

49
JOBS WITH MULTI-SERVER SELECTIONS

Backup Exec 15 includes the mixed backup method
Backup Exec 15 allows an incremental and a differential task
to exist in the same Backup Stage
51. 51
EXISTING POLICY BASED BACKUP JOBS
Backup Exec 2014
Existing policy based backup jobs are not combined on basis
of identical selection lists
If the migration process identifies a policy job without a full
backup, a full backup job is created in the terminal state
If a Run once incremental or differential job is found, it migrates
with the schedule
Differential jobs are not deleted, if Incremental and differential
jobs are found within the same policy
52. NON-POLICY JOBS
If a non-policy standalone Incremental, Differential or Mixed
backup job exists, it is converted to a policy based backup
definition
If a Run on backup job has already run, a job with the scheduling
option Create without a schedule is created
If a Run Now backup job has never run, a backup job with the
scheduling option Run Now with no recurring schedule is created
If a Run on full backup job has never run, a full backup job with a
recurrence schedule of every 99 years is created
If an incremental or differential Run Once job, which may be
either a Run Now or a Run on job is migrated, a full backup job in
the terminal state and an incremental or differential job with a re-
occurrence schedule of every 99 years is created
53. 53
Non-policy jobs
Backup jobs that share identical selections list and are part of
same Backup Family are combined together in a common Backup
Definition
Only non-policy jobs are combined. It provides better
management of backup jobs
Non-policy duplicate jobs, which were linked to a backup job, are
added to the same backup definition
Non-policy duplicate jobs, with the Duplicate Existing Backup Set
option selected are deleted

server selections are split. These split jobs are NOT recombined during migration from Backup
Exec 2012 to Backup Exec 15.

Backup Exec 2014All the jobs are migrated from Backup Exec 2012 without
deletion or conversion as there is no paradigm shift

container created for the same server are merged and all the jobs
are displayed under the Windows remote server resource
